Tarot technology…

I have a deep interest in understanding how systems function - whether that be societal or esoteric.

Since 2017, I have delved deeply into learning about the system of understanding aspects of life through the system of cartomancy. This is usually grouped into the class of occultism. I personally care very little for titles - I am interested in the more pertinent question ‘does it work?’

For me it does.

Tarot cards seem to have appeared circa 1440 in Northern Italy with the primary purpose being card games. Circa 1750 is when it is documented that these cards - having had numerous revisions and interpretations, based on various regions in Europe; start being used for divination.

The deck I learned to read tarot is known as the Rider-Waite deck, titled after the academic (and mystic) Arthur Edward Waite and the card publisher at the time the Rider company in 1909. It took many years for the illustrator of the deck to be mentioned in her own right, Pamela Colman-smith (1878-1951). Pamela was a British Biracial artist, illustrator, writer and occultist. I’ve gone on to build a gorgeous collection of tarot decks and they tend to follow the Waite-Smith design concept.

Tarot decks generally consist of 78 cards depicting varying aspects of the human condition. There are 22 cards considered ‘major arcana’ and the rest of the cards ‘minor arcana.’

Major arcana would usually show themselves in a reading to reflect an overarching life energy in the querent’s life. The Minor arcana would reflect the more day-to-day energy possibly showing how the major energies are playing out in the ‘mundane.’

I am fascinated about how no two of my readings are ever the same and the accuracy of my readings remain impeccable. This is not about me bigging myself up (well a little bit) but rather that to understand the function of each card and how the combination of cards that emerge create a unique story; is something worth studying.

I learn something new in each reading I do, of which I have now done hundreds.

You are welcome to learn with me by booking a reading and we will see what story emerges for you.
